The celebrations, which run until Sunday, kick off with the premiere of ‘Lugares’ by Colectivo Espaço Invisível.
Directed by Daniela Cruz and Nuno Preto, the play - with sessions on all three days - is the result of a collaborative effort between professional artists and 15 participants from the local senior community, taking place in different areas of the theatre.
Today at 9:30 pm, Rivoli will host a spoken word recital (poetic performance) by Mia Tomé and Noiserv, dedicated to the city of Porto and based on texts by Ana Luísa Amaral, Filipa Leal, Jorge Sousa Braga and Manuel António Pina.
One of the highlights of the programme is the national premiere of Christos Papadopoulos' ‘My Fierce Ignorant Step’, which will be staged at the Grand Auditorium on Saturday and Sunday.
The Greek choreographer, winner of the first edition of the Rose International Dance Award, brings to Porto a piece with 10 performers that explores the relationship between sound, words and movement, creating ‘an ecstatic soundscape from which the choreography emerges’.
This year, the birthday party will be hosted by DJ Kiko is Hot, who will perform on Saturday from 10:30 pm, with a line-up featuring pop music hits.
According to the organisers, admission to all events is free, but tickets must be collected on the day of the sessions (a maximum of two per person), from 10 am, at the box office of the Porto Municipal Theatre or via the online platform.













That refers to Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, in Lisbon one of Portugal’s most emblematic theatres, frequently highlighted in the news when celebrating major anniversaries of Portuguese theatre and culture.
