Bright International School: Growing with Purpose, Excellence, and Community.
Since joining the Sharing Education Group, Bright International School has entered a period of remarkable growth and transformation. What began as an ambitious vision has rapidly evolved into one of the Algarve’s most dynamic international schools, welcoming students aged
3 to 16 with the IGCSE programme, with a clear and confident pathway to expand through to age 18 from 2027 with the A Levels.
This growth is not accidental and is extremely controlled, limiting year groups to 18 students per class. It is the result of a carefully considered educational philosophy, strategic investment and a strong belief that schools should prepare young people not only for examinations, but for life. As Principal Tom Caston explains, “Bright is growing because families recognise that we are building something meaningful here; an education rooted in high standards, personal development and genuine care for every child.”
Natural Excellence: Introducing the IGCSE programme
A key milestone in Bright’s academic journey came in the 2025/26 academic year with the introduction of the IGCSE programme.
From its first year, the programme has exceeded expectations, with a motivated and capable cohort that is already setting an impressive academic benchmark.
Bright’s approach is underpinned by what the school refers to as a natural excellence: students are challenged to achieve ambitious academic goals while being fully supported to do so without unnecessary stress. “Excellence should feel purposeful, not overwhelming,” says Tom. “Our students are working hard, but they’re also engaged, confident, and enjoying the process of learning. That balance is what allows them to truly thrive.”
Building on this success, Bright has already received accreditation for A Levels, which will officially launch in September 2027. This milestone reinforces the school’s long-term commitment to providing a complete education pathway in the Algarve, preparing students for top universities worldwide.
Learning Beyond the Classroom: The Bufori EivE Project
One of Bright’s most distinctive initiatives this year is the introduction of the EivE electric vehicle from Bufori Motors, and the launch of a school race team. Far more than a technology showcase, the project places students at the centre of a fully student-managed race team.
From engineering and performance analysis to marketing, business development, and race strategy, students take ownership of every aspect of the project – including stepping into the role of drivers. This immersive experience brings learning to life, requiring students to apply academic
knowledge alongside communication, teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skills.
“This is real-world learning in action,” says Tom. “Students aren’t just studying concepts; they’re living them. Projects like this build confidence, resilience and adaptability – qualities that are not in the school coursebooks.”
A New Campus: Investing in the Algarve
Bright’s academic expansion has been matched by significant investment in facilities. Major development works took place over the summer of 2025 to open an entirely new floor dedicated to learning spaces, designed to support collaborative and flexible teaching.
Alongside this, the school is finalising its brand-new outdoor sports facilities, including a football pitch, basketball court and tennis court, as well as a renovation of the existing indoor gym. These upgrades reflect Bright’s holistic approach to education, recognising the vital role of physical activity in student wellbeing and performance.
Bright already hosts many international students through its after-school activities programme in partnership with Vilamoura Sports Academy. The new facilities will significantly expand capacity, allowing even more students from across the region to benefit from high-quality sports provision.
A Global School with a Family Feel
Despite its rapid growth and international outlook, Bright remains deeply rooted in a strong sense of community. Families frequently describe the school as having a family feel – a place where students, staff and parents genuinely know and support one another.
This balance between global standards and local warmth is what makes Bright unique within the Algarve’s educational landscape.
“We are very international, but relationships are at the heart of everything we do,” Tom reflects. “That sense of belonging is what allows students to feel secure, confident and prepared.” Join Bright’s Open Day – Saturday, 7 February, 10:30am To experience this vibrant community first-hand, Bright International School invites families to its Open Day on Saturday, 7 February at 10:30am.
Families will have the opportunity to tour the campus, meet staff and students, explore academic pathways, and gain insight into Bright’s distinctive educational approach.
As Bright International School continues its journey of growth and innovation, one thing remains clear: the school is not simply expanding in size, but in ambition, opportunity and impact.
