Retired people, companies, families, workers and other layers of the population will be benefiting from the measures approved by the ministers that are now part of the Government, led by Luís Montenegro.
Increasing retired people's income
The Government will give an automatic supplement to the pensions already given to retired people. This way, people with pensions until €522,50 will receive an extra €200. Those with pensions between €522,50 and €1,045 will receive a support of €150 monthly, while people receiving from €1,045 and €1.567,50 will have a supplement of €100.
The main goal of this measure is to aid elderly people who are not living under the best economic conditions.
The supplement will be paid once, in September, and, according to the Government’s website, “more than 90% of the retired people” will benefit from the means. That is, more than two million people will receive a supplement.
Companies paying less taxes
A gradual reduction in the Corporate Income Tax (IRC) will be applied until reaching 17%. The first decrease will be done in 2025 from 21% to 19%. Small and medium enterprises and small-cap companies will have a reduced tax of 15% on the first 50 thousand euros of profit. This way, the Government is aiming to promote investment and economic growth.
The Minister of Finance highlights that Portugal has the highest taxes in the OECD, and the Government is trying to reverse that reality.
Helping families
Pregnant women, subscribed to the Portuguese civil servant’s retirement and survivor pension funds will now have access to the electronic declaration of pregnancy.
Aiming to stop bureaucracy is one of the Government’s priorities, and it will be applied to the attribution of the prenatal family allowance, making the process quicker and easier for families that are expecting a child.
New rules for professional drivers
The Government is aiming to create rules for the working time in the sector, including not only independent workers, but also those who are employed by a public transport enterprise. Within this scope, the authorities are planning to establish rules for the tachographs installed in the vehicles.
The European Union (EU) guidelines will be applied in Portugal, promoting the cohesion between all the countries that belong to the EU.
Identifying property
There will be more transparency in the registration of buildings or lands, and the Government is aiming to publish, for public consultation, the annual BUPi report. This way, it will be easier for people to identify the limits of their lands, aiding families in terms of heritage, for example.
Keeping on working on the reduction of bureaucracy, the Government is evaluating a new National Cadastral Information System.
