Are you experiencing grief after someone you care about has died?
Are you a therapist or holistic healer working with bereaved families?
Do you genuinely want to learn more about Grief and understand behaviour and reactions?
Emotional, physical and mental health is fragile. There is a fine line between trauma, grief, anxiety and depression. You may feel lonely, left out or a little lost.
All are welcome to attend this informal Grief get together to socialise and improve wellbeing.
Beginning in Silves, the cafe will continue to ‘pop up’ across the Algarve on 7th of each month. Different locations from Tavira to Lagos. Loulé to Ferragudo.
Please Note: the cafe is not a counselling service or peer support group. It is supporting grief after bereavement in an active way.
The purpose is to join a friendly group in a welcoming environment. The opportunity to eat cake, drink coffee and talk without feeling any awkwardness. Laughter and tears come with the territory. That’s ok too. No apologies needed.
A guest speaker will be there to explain about wellness and what might help you physically, mentally or emotionally.
The original pop up Good Grief cafe was launched in the UK in 2019 by The Good Grief Trust, a UK based charity run by the bereaved, for the bereaved. The cafe proved a great success and has gone from strength to strength popping up in locations across the UK. Covid lockdown restrictions haven’t deterred The Good Grief Trust as they adapt the cafe to a regular Virtual Cafe support event. A vital lifeline for the bereaved facing the additional challenge of restrictions placed on group gatherings at funerals.
The Good Grief Trust works with a network of bereavement support partner organisations based in UK. Please visit the website www.thegoodgrieftrust.org for more information.
One of those partner organisations is The Jessica Lawson Foundation.
In 2017 the founder of the Foundation Brenda Lawson relocated with her family from the UK to live in Silves. This decision was made after her daughter Jessica died tragically and unexpectedly in July 2015.
Working closely with the Good Grief Trust CEO, Linda Magistris, the idea of a similar pop up Grief get together in the Algarve started to develop.
Grief is a complex and sensitive subject, rarely talked about. At some point during our lifetime most people will come face to face with grief. Conventionally, grief is the emotional response to loss, it also has physical, cognitive, behavioural, social, cultural, spiritual and philosophical dimensions.
Individual experiences of grief vary and are influenced by the nature of the loss, the family dynamics and circumstances.
