Lucília Gago was speaking at the 7th Domestic Violence Seminar, organised by the police and the Victim Support Office.

Gago said preventive measures that were “structured and consistent” were needed and that schools had to be aware of “signs of violence” in child victims.

The attorney general’s office has warned about the risk of these children replicating violent behaviours they were victims of and which they witnessed at home from a young age, saying that violence could later be manifested in romantic relationships, both among adolescents and adults.

The police also said that 14 people had been killed this year and named them all to highlight that they were more than just numbers.
