Flu with low intensity in Portugal

The flu in Portugal is of low intensity but with an increasing tendency, according to the flu epidemiological surveillance bulletin of the Ricardo Jorge Institute.

According to the bulletin, the incidence rate of flu syndrome was 56.24 per 100 thousand inhabitants.

The data refer to the third week of January, from the 13th to 19th. In the previous week, the incidence rate was 44.64 per 100 thousand inhabitants.

According to the bulletin, in the third week of the month there was an increase in detections of the influenza virus of subtype A, compared to previous weeks.

14 positive cases were detected for the influenza virus, 2 of type B, 2 of subtype A-H3 and 10 of subtype A-H1, according to data from Sentinela Networks. The Portuguese Network of Laboratories for the Diagnosis of Influenza detected the influenza virus type B in 75 cases and type A in 132 cases. In the 24 intensive care units that report information, 13 cases were detected.

According to the bulletin, mortality rates are as expected and in the European region, the third week was also marked by low-intensity flu activity with an increasing trend.
