Left Bloc loses founding members

A group of 26 members of the Left Bloc, including three founding members, have resigned this week in protest against the party’s leadership moving away from its original political ideology.

The 26 members said the Left Bloc had become more focussed on its political survival than dealing with the issues currently facing society.

Part of the decision rests on the Left Bloc’s position following the recent clashes between police and a predominantly black community living in Jamaica, Seixal.

The 26 said the party’s actions were not up to scratch in supporting the community, and that the Left Bloc had placed itself on the wrong side of the fight against racism.
