Originally a total of 28 trees were due to be felled to make space for the car park, but that number has been dramatically reduced to three following protests from local residents.
A further five trees are to be uprooted and transplanted.
More than 50 people gathered for over two hours in Entrecampos to protest against the work and were later heard by the Lisbon Councillor for Urbanism, Manuel Salgado.
