“Our expectations are that in the coming years about one third of Portuguese homes will have joined Netflix,” Hastings said.
While acknowledging that this was a “very ambitious” goal, he said it was in line with the company’s experience and goals in other markets.
“Probably within seven years” Netflix could reach the one-third level, he said.
On the company’s goals for its first year in Portugal, he declined to be drawn, saying that it would “focus on happiness” for customers. The most important thing, he explained, was “creating a strong reputation” in the country.
The Netflix service offers subscribers some of the most popular US-made and other international series, as well as thousands of films, all on demand.
