According to daily newspaper Diário de Notícias, the two men were arrested in 2012 just south of Lisbon with 350 kilograms of cocaine in their possession. They were sentenced to 11 and 8 year jail terms, but upon appealing, were placed in temporary custody.
But as the maximum time had expired for a defendant to be held without a verdict, the men were released before fleeing the country last month.
