In a statement, police said that "the suspect and the victim had a dating relationship about two months."

The same source says that in mid-July, the woman went "to her ex-boyfriend's residence to try to talk to him."

"Since she failed to do so, she waited for the victim to leave his residence and soaked him with gasoline, setting him on fire," the statement added.

The crime caused obvious danger to the life and physical integrity of the victim, causing severe burns that forced hospitalisation.

The detainee was present at the Judicial Court of the Lisbon West District - Sintra Nucleus, for the first judicial interrogation, having been subjected to the coercive but serious measure of pre-trial detention.
