Credit for car purchases was down almost 12 percent on the month but up more than 46 percent on the year to €101 million - more than one quarter of the value of all consumer credit contracts.
Personal credit, such as spending on education, health, household goods or travel, was up 23 percent on the year to €133 million, while other new credit totalled €77 million, up eight percent.
In the first eight months of the year as a whole, new consumer credit totalled €3.17 billion, up 22.5 percent on the same period of 2014.
