About 150 volunteers are going to plant around 3,000 trees on Saturday near the schist village of Vila Cova de Alva, in Arganil, in an event organised by ecology NGO Quercus and the Zurich insurance company the two entities said.

The idea is to recover part of the area that was destroyed by wildfires in October last year by planting ‘strawberry trees’ wild fruit trees and various kinds of native trees in four different parts of the county near Coimbra.

The Quercus NGO appealed for more volunteers to join their replanting event that begins at 10:30 with the symbolic planting of some trees at the b Vila Cova de Alva social centre before the volunteers go to the four plantation areas.
