The crime took place in 2016 in front of a restaurant in the town of Littau, near Lucerne, Switzerland.

The 60-year-old man murdered his wife in front of a restaurant with 15 stab wounds.

The Lucerne Criminal Court found, according to the Swiss newspaper "Le Matin", that the crime was premeditated and of extreme brutality, as the victim still tried to escape but was pursued by her husband.

The defence claimed that the defendant was under the influence of pills, but it was proved in court that the medication had nothing to do with the crime.

The Portuguese citizen's lawyers will also have asked for a shorter sentence, but the court chose to sentence him to 20 years in prison.

The sixty-year-old is also obliged to pay compensation of 50,000 francs to each of his children.

The crime was probably motivated by jealousy, as the victim had separated from the perpetrator.
