Portugal is one of the countries in Europe where young people aged up to 16 who consume cannabis do so in a more problematic way, according to the "European School Survey Project on Alcohol and other Drugs (ESPAD)".

The same study also found tobacco consumption among young people up to the age of 16 has been decreasing since 2003 in Portugal, but alcohol consumption has increased slightly in the last four years. The study outlines European trends regarding the evolution of addictive behaviours among 16 year olds.
