With winter approaching some of you may have a list of books that you might enjoy in the comfort and warmth of your homes. I would add this book to that list.

Fiennes has travelled to the most treacherous and inaccessible places on earth. He has faced death more than once. He has written many bestsellers. He has raised millions of pounds for charity. Among other things he is a real-life explorer and mountaineer. He also been awarded on OBE.He is a hero to many people.

We as the readers are privileged to be able to enjoy his adventures and once in a lifetime experiences. This book only covers his trips up to around 2008. So, I would recommend you read some of his subsequent books for more of his wonderful stories.

In this book he goes into detail how he led expeditions and how he became the first person to travel to both poles on land. His description of his attempted solo and unsupported walk to the North Pole makes for riveting reading. Some of the other highlights of the book include the frostbite incident and the ascent of Eiger.

He pushes his body to the utmost limits and I found him courageous and interesting.

The book also affords you a glimpse into his marriage to Ginny and family life. This is a rare opportunity to understand a different side of this well-known explorer.

This book keeps you engrossed and is a page turner. This book is well written and I highly recommend reading this book especially if you are interested in the outdoor and adventures. Do yourself a favour and read some of his other books after this one.
