The Web Summit kicked off on Wednesday and ends today. Paddy Cosgrave mentioned the presence in this edition of people from 168 countries, more than 1,000 speakers, more than 2,000 journalists, 679 conversations through the five Channels of the Summit Web and 290 live roundtables, among other numbers. Web Summit announced today that it will be present in Tokyo, Japan, in 2022. That is, within two years, the Web Summit Tokyo will take place in September, followed by web summit Lisbon, so far "the largest technology event in the world".

The Web Summit organization, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Tokyo metropolitan area authorities have signed a five-year partnership agreement to bring the technology summit to the Japanese capital. This movement is part of the Web Summit's plans to bring the conference to new regions in the world in 2022, which includes South America, namely Brazil. "Japan is the perfect country to host the Web Summit. For decades it has been the global leader in innovation, building some of the most sophisticated and advanced technologies that are used today," Paddy Cosgrave said in the announcement of this agreement.

At the press conference, the executive chairman of Web Summit said he hoped that by 2022 the event venue in Lisbon would be "twice the size", expecting capacity to increase to "about 140,000". "My expectation is that most additional participants will come from markets where there is still a large margin to grow," he added. "We already have 5,000 more participants from Asia," he said. As for the city where the Brazilian edition of the Web Summit will take place - whose choice is between São Paulo and Porto Alegre - Paddy Cosgrave said it will be known in the near future. Meanwhile, the Rise event will move from Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2022. Cosgrave aspires that in 2023 web summit events will take place in Japan, to which a summit can be joined in Africa. "Potentially, the Middle East, too," he said, adding that he hoped to be able to make "more announcements" next year, by this time, about plans for other events. The Web Summit, considered one of the largest technological summits in the world, is held this year totally 'online' with "an estimated audience of 100,000" people. After two editions held in Lisbon (2016 and 2017), Web Summit and the Portuguese Government announced, in October 2018, a ten-year partnership that allows the conference to be held in the Portuguese capital until 2028.
