The Assistant Secretary of State and Health, António Sales, has stressed that the “Government has taken the right measures at the right time and the Portuguese have realised this” while announcing more ventilators for the health service.

By the end of the year, Portugal should exceed 2,100 ventilators, António Sales revealed.

The Assistant Secretary of State and Health said: “We had 1,142 and we practically doubled our response capacity for mechanical ventilation.

“It is important to say that we accompanied this with the reinforcement of human resources, because the ventilators do not work alone. There are about 240 that are still being evaluated in terms of the common use service, because it is not enough to arrive, it is necessary to be certified and evaluated to see if everything is working well".
