Netflix productions dominate SAG nominees

The series “The Crown” and “Schitt’s Creek”, and the films “Ma Rainey: The mother of the blues” and “Minari” are the most nominated for the United States Actors Union (SAG) awards.

According to the union, the 'streaming' platform and Netflix production has the most nominations, around 30, between film and series productions. The Anglo-American series “The Crown”, inspired by the history of the British royal family and shown on Netflix, and the Canadian series “Schitt's Creek”, shown on the Canadian Broadcasting Network (CBC), add up to five nominations each, including the award for best cast in a dramatic series and comedy, respectively. In cinema, with three nominations each, “Ma Rainey: The mother of the blues”, by George C. Wolfe, and “Minari”, produced between the United States and South Korea, by Lee Issac Chung.

The actors' union award nominees were announced the day after the Foreign Press Association in Hollywood revealed the nominees for the Golden Globes, criticized by the specialized press for the lack of diversity and representativeness of non-white actors. From the cast as a whole, in the cinema category are named “Da 5 Bloods: Brothers in arms”, by Spike Lee, “One night in Miami”, by Regina King, “Ma Rainey: The mother of the blues”, “Minair”, as well as “The 7 of Chicago”, by Aaron Sorkin. In the category of best comedy series, the casts of “Dead to me”, “The flight attendant”, “Dead to me”, “The Great”, “Schitt's Creek” and “Ted Lasso” are named, while in the dramatic series "The Crown", "Better cal Saul", Bridgerton "," Lovecraft country "and" Ozark "compete.

Concerning individual categories, of main and secondary representation, emphasis on the posthumous double nomination of actor Chadwick Boseman, for his performance in “Da 5 Bloods: Brothers in arms” and “Ma Rainey: The mother of the blues”. Chadwick Boseman died last August, aged 43,. The calendar of awards for the film industry was also affected by the pandemic of the covid-19, so the awards of this union of the actors, considered one of the barometers for the Oscars, will be delivered on April 4th. The Oscars ceremony also changed, with the nominees to be known in March, and the announcement of the winners rescheduled for 25 April. The Golden Globes winners will be announced on 28 February.
