Firefighters contain blaze in Monchique

A large fire that started around 1:26 pm at the Tojeiro, Marmelete, in Monchique yesterday, is now reported to be under control at 07:30 Sunday morning.

According to CMTV a firefighter has injured while fighting the flames.

The fire had reached the municipality of Portimão, where 30 inhabitants of the village of Pereira have already been evacuated. Fire fighters and aircraft are still at the site of the fire to combat any further outbreaks

We are staying in Lagos and can see it in the distance from our hotel balcony. What brings it even closer to home is our lovely friends who run a restaurant in Lagos live right in the centre of the fire - they are trying to rescue their animals. Hope everything is OK ????????????????

Fire is out now thanks to 450 firefighters, 150 vehicles and 9 aircrafts ????
