“Sporting Clube de Portugal appeals to the sensitivity of its members and fans so that pyrotechnics are not used in the stands of the Estádio José Alvalade. Safety comes first and the club seeks to ensure that everyone who goes to the Estádio José Alvalade has a risk-free experience,” said the 'lions' in a statement.

Sporting also adds that the use of pyrotechnic material in the stands can lead to "heavy fines in various competitions, which can cause serious damage" to the club.

The ‘lions’ receive on Wednesday the Dutch team Ajax, in a game of the first round of group C of the Champions League, scheduled for 20:00 at the José Alvalade stadium, which will be refereed by the Spaniard José Sánchez Martínez.
