"I think the great thing about Web Summit is that this is where people who love details come together," said Lisbon's new mayor at the opening of the event.
"If you think about innovation - I told everyone, my dream is that Lisbon is the innovation capital of the world", he said.
"We have to be able to go beyond the Web Summit, we have to make you and the companies stay in Lisbon" because you see "the opportunity", stressed the former European commissioner.
"That's why I promise that next year we will found, with the help of Web Summit and many of you, what I call a dream - the Lisbon Unicorn Factory", he said.
This factory "will be a place where we will teach the details and the process so that young people can transform their ideas into big businesses, create jobs and change the world and have a purpose, that's what the “Fábrica de Unicórnios” will be", said Carlos Moedas.
"Whatever you do in life, whatever your project, dream big, go deep into the details." Because "this is what can change the world, and if you do that I can only tell you one thing: Lisbon is the right place to do it", he added.

This is what the politicians should be doing in the Algarve,rather than lining their pockets with dodgy real estate deals.The politicians down here are so out of touch it is a joke.
There they go promoting cheap package holidays and all inclusive wedding deals.People that come here get blindingly drunk have no respect for the neighbourhoods or anyone else.
Instead they should make the Algarve a very low tax free trade zone to attract the green businesses required to save our planet.
Out with the corrupt old guard! It's time for a change.The recent elections proved as much ,with no clear winners.

So much needs to change! Charging those ridiculously high rentals and selling over priced property does not bring economic development, yet no one seems to care nor do anything about that. Jame is right, there could be so much potential but it would mean a serious review of housing, decent urbanisation and good public transport and facilities. Otherwise, just be honest : come to Portugal, expect to pay Nordic housing prices, expect no decent public transport, expect no customer service, be content to be ripped off as much as possible. Oh, and let's not even get into all the inefficient, pointless bureaucracy . Portugal could do so much more if only there was the will to do so.
