According to a report by Jornal de Notícias, the president of Turismo de Portugal, Luís Araújo, is encouraging agents in the North region to focus on Iberia as a strategic partner and on Madrid as an international connection airport, in instead of waiting for TAP.

“As air connectivity is an important part of this equation, work has been carried out, especially in the post-pandemic period, in order to strengthen the connections of airlines to all national airports, attract new airlines – as they ensure the connections of new markets or markets that already exist to national airports – and to collaborate in the companies' sales and distribution programs in these same markets”.

The tourist authority, supervised by the Ministry of Economy and the Sea, stressed that, without prejudice to TAP’s role as a strategic partner of Turismo de Portugal and in terms of connectivity and accessibility to Portugal, “and considering that IBERIA has recently included the destinations of Porto and Lisbon in its programme, work has been carried out to make these destinations even more attractive for passengers who make connections in Spain”.
