What are the projections for Faro in 5 to 10 years?

Economic projection

Faro is enjoying an excellent period, highlighting its enormous potential, both in its population growth and in its economic development.

With the efforts made by my teams and myself for several years, Faro is no longer simply a city exclusively of services but is increasingly becoming a university and tourist city, with a very marked cosmopolitan and cultural aspect.

It is natural that more and more people come to us, in Faro, to make their investments and develop their professional activities.

Projections for infrastructure (marina, bike path, etc.)

Faro has been in constant transformation for 10 years, our ambition and our objective is that Faro is once again identified as the true capital of the Algarve. Our ambitious and exciting projects include a complete restructuring of the RIA FORMOSA façade; with the development of Bom João, to the east of the city, the embellishment of the pedestrian zone of the Marina and its immediate surroundings, as well as the continuity of investments so that the Parque Ribeirinho becomes a place of leisure with high environmental and ecological content.

Since 2019, the municipality of Faro has taken a big leap towards a greener future by signing the international charter of principles known as the “shared mobility for human cities”. Faro thus becomes the first city in the Iberian Peninsula to sign this global agreement.

This charter aims to commit Faro to respecting the environment, with the introduction of new fluid means of transport into the daily habits of the local community, accompanied by scooter and bicycle platforms.

This major aspect of sustainability is also the subject of several other major projects such as the requalification of the emblematic “Alameda João de Deus”, the city’s main green and leisure area, which you can already discover, and the Mata do Liceu park, the other green lung of Faro, which is in progress.

Another major project, facing the ocean this time, is the construction of the new bridge to Faro beach “Praia de Faro”, with two lanes to get to the beach, and a set of new accessibility options (transport public, bicycles, scooters and pedestrian), which will make it easier to get to the beach... for locals, for professional activities and finally for the thousands of tourists who, every day, throughout the year, will enjoy this beautiful living and leisure space.

What are the projects for the north of Faro?

The city is developing at all levels; with more housing, more hotels (3, 4 and 5*), increased economic activity and new technology industries. It is also worth noting that there is a development of rural areas, with increasingly qualified entrepreneurs betting on the fertile soil and with high quality production, especially in citrus fruits, red fruits, wine and now in the production of avocados in Faro, which is considered one of the best in the world.

What, in your opinion, are Faro’s strengths?

First of all, its centrality in the Algarve (East, Spain 1 hour away, West, Sagres 1.30 hours away)

The fact of being very well connected, by air (Europe is connected to Faro), by road (Lisbon is 2.30 hours away), by rail (all the cities of the Algarve can reach Faro) and by sea, with the ocean and the Ria Formosa being real assets for the capital of the Algarve and its development.

Every year, and in constant growth, many people from all over the world, thanks to these means of transport, come to discover the wonders that Faro can offer; the ecosystem of the Ria Formosa, the joys of the beaches and the surrounding islands, a city turned towards artistic and musical culture, a city with a rich and authentic historical heritage, our recognised university, turned towards the international and of course, Portuguese gastronomy highlighted by our excellent restaurants.

What does Quinta de Faro represent for you and for the people of Faro?

This project, which every day, every week, takes shape, a little more, singularly distinguishes us, giving Faro the image of a destination of excellence. This proves, above all, that on the edge of its natural sanctuary, the Ria Formosa, it has been possible to build a high quality project with different and original architecture; we are proud and magnified.

This project has a unique touch, the trademark of Mr. Joaquim Pirès, like all his achievements.
