Porto Council and the Brazilian Embassy in Lisbon yesterday signed a protocol that defines the conditions for the temporary transfer of the Soldier King’s heart to feature in the commemorations of the bicentennial of the independence of Brazil, and guarantees the care required for its transport.

The heart of the 19th monarch began its journey across the Atlantic last night. The formaldehyde-filled urn is accompanied by the mayor of Porto. Brazil's ambassador in Lisbon said that the loan "renews" historic ties between the two countries.
