The menu looks fantastic and there is a josper grill with interesting and innovative dishes with all kinds of meat and accompaniments. Meat lovers and sea food lovers will love this menu with traditional dishes and dishes prepared in slightly more innovative ways with quirky ingredients.

The wine list is extensive and impressive with some hard to find gems. As I was driving, I settled for a glass of red that had just the right amount of body to accommodate all the dishes.

My partner and I are vegan so we were given an amuse bouché of grilled watermelon and wild strawberries with mango, balsamic and a little salad. Very inventive and absolutely delicious with the flavours and textures matched perfectly.

We shared a warm tofu salad to start that had excellent vegetables - baby courgettes, baby carrots and baby corn all cooked to perfection. The tofu was beautiful in taste and texture. Finally, the seasoning of cumin and fresh herbs was inspired and unusual.

Next, we had the falafel salad. The falafels were tasty and crunchy accompanied by an excellent green salad. The dishes and cutlery are modern and yet warm at the same time and my partner I think would like the set.

For main we had chickpea curry, roasted, vegetables and rosemary potatoes. All were superb but particular mention must go to the roasted vegetables that were varied and spiced with unusual flavours. The portions were hearty and the staff were so accommodating that we ended up taking a small box home with us.

The dessert was fantastic and very innovative - cataplana of fruits with lime sorbet. It was very sweet but the sorbet offset this perfectly. It was so good we spooned the remaining juices out of the cataplana bowl.

This is a seriously good restaurant with seriously good food that is probably one of the best kept secrets in Quinta do Lago. Executive Chef Luís Santos and Chef Carlos have set the bar just right. The food is excellent - fine really, without being pretentious. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that appreciates superb food.
