A wave of Christian persecution came about and Blaise hid in a cave out in the desert. It was said wild birds brought him food and sick men sought him out for healing.

The King’s hunters finally came upon him and took him into custody. He went with them and preached on the way. He saved a boy from choking to death on a bone and rescued a pig belonging to a poor woman from a wolf.

When he was sentenced to death by starvation and the same woman slaughtered her pig to feed him in prison.

He was eventually martyred under the reign of Licinius. His body was torn with wool combs before he was beheaded.

He died in 316AD and he is the Patron of wool comers, those suffering from throat ailments, physicians, and wild animals.
