As this is a typically seasonal market segment, with the arrival of summer the demand for fans began to increase “in mid-June”, an official source from Jerónimo Martins, owner of Pingo Doce supermarkets, told ECO, signalling that the demand increases “whenever there are heat waves”.

In June alone, sales of this air conditioning equipment in Pingo Doce stores soared “in the order of 400%”, compared to the previous month. In view of the increase in demand, the retailer has foreseen “several promotional actions over the summer months”, but does not anticipate “any limit of stock“. “We have several models of fans available with prices starting at 11.99 euros (price without promotion)”, reveals an official source from Jerónimo Martins.

Worten, owned by the Sonae group, also noted “greater demand” during the month of June and which “extends to the present day”. In the last two weeks alone, the brand sold “48,000 fans”, that is, a number “eight times” higher compared to that registered in the same period last year, even so it is “slightly below” the one registered in the “peak of the wave of last year's heat", which took place between the 7th and 17th of July.

The situation is similar on Rádio Popular: in the last two weeks, sales of fans and air conditioners registered “double-digit growth, compared to the same period of the previous year”, points out an official source, to ECO. With various types of products, ranging from “tower, standing, ceiling, table and floor” fans to fixed or portable air conditioners, prices range from “19.99 euros” and “there have been no significant changes” compared to the previous year. But, unlike Pingo Doce and Worten, they are currently not promoting any of these items and do not expect stock outages.
