The latest coin of the Cotemporary Urban Art series by Casa da Moeda was designed by artist Bordalo II.

Artist Artur Bordalo, better known as Bordalo II, is at the same time a sculptor, painter, welder and graffiti artist, and his animals composed from discarded materials are his trademark.

On both sides of the silver coin is a half-moon of recycled polymer, which represented a new technical challenge for Casa da Moeda, which allied itself with PIEP – Pole of Innovation in Polymer Engineering.

"Challenged to create this coin with a diameter of 40 mm – a very different scale from his sometimes colossal installations – the artist chose the figure of the owl", writes Casa da Moeda.

The commemorative coin is available at the Casa da Moeda physical stores in Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra, or in www.loja.incm.pt.
