The use of motorhomes continues to grow in Portugal, with greater demand than supply of rental vehicles, according to the Yescapa company.

The company revealed an annual growth of 21 percent in the number of rentals compared to 2022 and around 8,000 trips made in Portugal.

The highest peaks in the use of vehicle rentals in Portugal were recorded between the months of June and September. In 2022, Yescapa registered a historic maximum of 4100 trips in this period, when compared to 2023, indicating an increase in demand, in which 5000 trips were majority made in Portugal, and also to explore Europe.

Reservations registered on the startup’s website presented 43 percent were made by the Portuguese, and 56 percent by foreigners travelling in Portugal, mostly from Spain, France, Italy and Germany, with an increase in Belgians and the Dutch. The traveller profiles are people aged between 40 and 65 followed by 25 and 34 years old.

The types of bookings that occurred most were for family holidays, followed by couples and with friends.

In the year 2023, 92 percent of Portuguese people who travelled by motorhome rented the vehicle in Portugal. The platform exceeded the 1,350 vehicles announced in mainland Portugal and the islands, totalling more than 16,000 vehicles available in Europe (France, Spain, Germany, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy).
