According to ERSE (Energy Services Regulatory Authority), the average price of petrol, including taxes, was 1,724 euros, compared to the 1,650 euros for the EU-27 average, in the fourth quarter.

"National PMV [average sales prices] are higher than the EU-27 average, with the country occupying ninth position among the countries with the highest prices", highlighted ERSE.

Diesel costs an average of 1,660 euros in Portugal, while in the EU-27 it costs 1,671 euros.

In this case, "the national PMV was below the EU-27 average values, giving Portugal the 14th place for the highest prices", said the regulator.

In relation to Spain, "Portugal had a higher tax burden (52%) in the context of the Iberian Peninsula, which is why the Portuguese PMV, with taxes, was around 10.0 cent/l higher than that of Spain" for petrol.

For diesel, "the tax burden in Portugal (45%) was higher than in Spain (41%), leading to the PMV practiced in Portugal being 6.2 cents/l higher than in Spain".
