Longford County Council approved the supermarket group's request for planning approval for the new 1,315 square metre shop.

The second ALDI shop to open in Longford since 2000 is scheduled to open in the summer of 2025.

Up to thirty permanent employments in the neighbourhood will be generated by the new Granard business.

ALDI's €33.6 million Midlands investment plan, which was unveiled in September 2023, featured this location in addition to additional stores in Moate, County Westmeath, Kilcock, County Kildare, and Tullamore, County Offaly.

Should the four additional stores' plans be authorised for development, they would all open by 2025 and provide 120 full-time jobs in the area in addition to 200 positions during construction.

The new Granard location is one of four that are part of the €33.6 million Midlands investment plan that was unveiled last year, according to Colin Breslin, Managing Director Buying & Services at ALDI Ireland.

“We look forward to developing and opening the store and bringing more ALDI value to Longford,” he stated.
