Inspiring Surroundings

“We are a mixed group of expats and locals – entrepreneurs, freelancers, and employees from abroad, who are looking for like-minded people who want to thrive and grow in an inspiring workspace together,” Rebecca and Ivo told The Portugal News.

Upon moving to Portugal in 2022, Rebecca shared her experience in working remotely, from the kitchen or the lounge and how boring it could get. “When you’re trying to settle into a new place, city and country, it makes it harder to get to know people if you’re working from home, I didn’t feel part of the community.”

“Coming from a background where you meet so many different clients and host events, where anything was possible, to sitting at home in the kitchen… I began to question why there wasn’t a coworking space in Albufeira”, Rebecca recalled.

“Once we did our research, we chose to pursue the idea of opening one ourselves”, said Ivo about their beginnings.

He also mentioned the importance of coworking, how it brings opportunities to meet different people, in various fields, from developers to designers, among others, and the chance for collaboration and friendship.

“The aim was to create a professional environment, with diversity. And build a community, a meeting point, where you’re not just renting a seat, you’re building connections”, Rebecca and Ivo described. “Come sit with us.”

“A lot of the people we have received, have said their level of productivity is much higher here because it’s easier to get distracted at home. They come here to work, get things done and a plus is the social aspect”, stated Ivo.

“We also offer the space to collaborate with other companies, to host events together, or to rent out the space for their own events, outside of work hours” added Rebecca.

The founders of Albufeira Coworking encourage anyone who hasn’t had the chance to meet anybody, or those interested in renting the space, as well as long-termers, to attend the events hosted at the space, to mingle and exchange ideas.

Community

Albufeira Coworking also offers community programs such as “Learn Portuguese in a small group”, where anyone interested in learning the language can participate in teacher-led classes in an intimate group of a maximum of five people. Learning A1/A2 level and having fun while doing so – extra group activities are free in the coworking space.

The “After work meetup” program, where participants can grab a free beer and meet others within the community. You don’t have to be a seated member to join, as it’s open to everyone who signs up!

Lastly, the “Community Breakfast”, where every two weeks, a cozy free breakfast is available for all seating members. “It’s a continental brekkie on the menu!”
