European countries dominate the OECD labour markets offering the best salaries, with Luxembourg leading at almost $90,000 per year (€83,028/year). Next on the list, are Iceland and Switzerland. The US and Australia are the only non-European countries in the top 10.

Among all OECD countries, the average salary is around 58,000 dollars per year (53,500 euros/year), and Portugal is below that figure, at 37,500 dollars (34,400 euros/year).

Comparing the highest and lowest salaries reveals a striking difference. Mexico has the lowest average salary, at just over $20,000 a year (€18,450), less than a quarter of what the average worker in Luxembourg earns.
