In Ponte da Barca, the fire that has been raging since Saturday in the Peneda-Gerês National Park and is currently mobilizing nearly 400 firefighters, spread this morning to the municipality of Terras de Bouro, in the district of Braga.
The Secretary of State for Civil Protection, Rui Rocha, stated today that the government is doing everything necessary to ensure the availability of 76 aerial resources, insisting that the contribution of these resources to extinguishing fires depends on the characteristics of the fires.
Much of the northern and central interior of the country is currently at maximum risk of rural fires, according to data from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
The forecast mainly covers the municipalities of Bragança, Vila Real, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, and Santarém.
According to the IPMA, the maximum risk of rural fires will continue in the coming days in the same regions, worsening in some municipalities in the Algarve.
