Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) said that “safety conditions for road traffic have now been met,” after it was temporarily closed on March 19, following the detection of a landslide risk caused by bad weather.

For about nine months, the EN120 was closed to traffic at this location, “following the partial collapse of the road platform, on the right side, at kilometre 128.6, over a length of about 50 metres,” the statement reads.

“The intervention represented an investment of approximately 800,000 euros, aiming at the full restoration of traffic and safety conditions in the access to the village of Odeceixe, in the municipality of Aljezur,” it adds.

The project included the construction of a reinforced concrete wall, drainage systems, paving of the road platform, and installation of safety and signalling equipment, namely the placement of safety barriers and guide rails on the right side of the road platform.

“The completion of this work will allow the full restoration of traffic and transport conditions, contributing to the region's economy and the mobility of the population, on a road that is establishing itself as one of the main road axes in the region,” concludes IP.
