The lift, which connects Almada’s historic centre to the riverside area, has long been one of the quickest and most popular ways to reach the Jardim do Rio without needing a car.
According to Lusa news agency, the reopening was announced by Almada City Council, which says the restored access will once again help reconnect people with one of the best-known areas on the south bank of the Tagus.
A ride with views over the Tagus
Standing at around 50 metres high, the Boca do Vento lift has become a well-known landmark in Almada over the years, mainly for its panoramic views of the Tagus River and across to Lisbon.
Beyond its practical use, the lift is also popular with people heading for a walk along the waterfront or visiting the restaurants and leisure spaces located by the river.
The structure had been closed for about 2 months while renovation work was carried out. The intervention focused on improving the connection between Almada’s historic centre and the lower riverside area.
The municipality says the reopening is important not only for local mobility but also for preserving and improving one of the city’s leisure and heritage spaces.
A mix of heritage and leisure
Boca do Vento remains one of Almada’s most visited areas, combining green spaces, viewpoints and walking routes overlooking the Tagus.
Almada City Council says the route allows visitors to “rediscover the city from a new angle”, referring to the panoramic scenery visible during the journey up and down the lift.
One of the features that continues to attract both tourists and residents is the fact that access remains completely free.
Over the years, the Boca do Vento panoramic lift has become one of the most recognisable parts of Almada’s riverside area, particularly for those looking for some of the best views towards Lisbon.
