Since de beginning of the pandemic, in March, of all people hospitalised, only 10 percent needed intensive care, said Lacerda Sales, referring that this proportion was higher in people between 40 and 80 years old, differing between 14 percent and 21 percent.

According to the government, the percentage of patients hospitalised in Intensive Units Care was highest in March, reaching 18 percent and stabilised over the next months, to around 10 percent.

The Secretary of State also stressed the importance of vaccination. "We are committed to ensuring the greatest vaccination coverage ever in Portugal, in order to minimise the coexistence of seasonal flu and covid-19 and, of course, to protect the most vulnerable", he assured.
