According to Ana Cristina Guerreiro, the screening of people with suspected disease will work in a tent that is being set up next to the sports complex, in partnership with the health authorities, city councils, the Faro hospital and the University of Algarve.

The announcement was made by the head of public health in the Algarve region, during a press conference at the Regional Health Administration, in Faro, to take stock of the situation regarding the infection by the new coronavirus in the Algarve.

For his part, the president of the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve and of the Municipality of Olhão, António Pina, told the agency Lusa that the centre "will start operating at the beginning of next week, allowing for screening to detect the disease".

"The objective is to lighten the burden on hospitals, preventing people from having to go to health facilities, similarly to what is being done in other regions of the country", stressed the mayor.

According to António Pina, the municipalities of the Algarve admit to creating “two other centres where the screening and referencing of cases of covid-19 can be carried out, one in Portimão and the other east of the Algarve, in coordination with the authorities of health".
