The Agency’s statement said that around €250 million had been spent on tourism related activities in the region based upon the €62 million spent on regionally located hotels and other built accommodation establishments.
As expenditure on accommodation represents 24 percent of total expenditure, the agency extrapolated the figure above to attain the overall €250 million in turnover.
That accommodation based revenue was up an annualised nine percent with the region hosting some 460,000 nights, itself an increase of around 25 percent.
The statement also quotes Agency President Vítor Silva pointing to that variation in numbers.
“In 2014, we recorded an average charge per night of €47.5 clearly below that of 2013 (€49.8), demonstrating the need for hotel managers to continue to adapt their prices to match the still existing economic difficulties,” said Silva.
