Bicycle demand grew 93% during confinement

OLX has released a study, based on data available on the platform, in which it analyses the evolution of demand (contacts made to ads), supply (new and active ads) and average price of bicycles and related accessories.

The conclusions now presented examine the first six months of 2020, including the period of confinement and de-escalation regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.

“These figures allow us to infer with some certainty that the bicycle was the preferred equipment of the Portuguese for exercising during quarantine. These data objectively confirm what many have been suspecting, because I have often heard over the past few months that they seemed to be riding more bikes on the street. This equipment makes it possible to perform the usual physical exercise without thereby violating any of the rules or recommendations imposed by the national authorities, so this sudden and quite significant growth on our platform turns out to be natural”, justifies Andreia Pacheco, Brand Manager at OLX Portugal.
