Banana and sugarcane farmers hailing from the south coast of the Portuguese island of Madeira are set to receive a sum of over €35,000.

The amount is designed to alleviate the losses incurred as a result of the storms that hit the territory in the early months of 2018.

The Regional Government also approved the funding of fourteen Youth Associations focused on educational, formative, cultural and charitable areas of society. According to Pedro Calado, Vice-President of the Regional Executive, ‘the amounts attributed contribute to the generation of a dynamic participation of children and young adults in projects focused on active citizenship’.

The Regional Government also announced that it is looking at expanding its monetary contributions to other areas such as housing and sociocultural events.
