The centre belongs to the Montenegro Veterinary Hospital and is the only facility in the country to offer CAT (computerised axial tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans to injured pets.
Its launch on 13 February also marks the evolution of veterinary services in Portugal, a statement from the centre explained, adding it aims to “fill a gap that existed in Portugal in the provision of basic means for the detection of injuries.”
The hospital and its centre has therefore become the “only place in Portugal with CAT and MRI scans for pets, available 24 hours a day.
“These services are complementary to extremely important diagnoses and aid an increasingly improved performance in the day-to-day activity of veterinarians.”
Luís Montenegro, clinical director of the Montenegro Veterinary Hospital, said that with the growing levels of work and the demands that accompany the evolution of veterinary medicine, specialists in the area were “faced with the need for a singular and increasingly customised dedication”.
“Responding to this need, the Montenegro Imagery Centre extended its offer of a uniquely dedicated workspace to advanced veterinary imaging, where, in addition to providing conventional imaging services such as conventional radiology and ultrasound, it now offers the CAT and Magnetic Resonance scans,” Luís Montenegro elaborated.
Founded in 1999 the Montenegro Veterinary Hospital and its Imaging Centre “follow the trend of increasing awareness among people for the welfare and health of animals, and, in response, have focused on a broadening of their projects, by investing in infrastructure, equipment, skilled employees and now, are the first centre offering a full range of imaging services aimed at pets”, the statement concluded.
