Discounts of up to 80 percent are applicable on journeys on the Alfa Pendular and Intercities high-speed trains, between 5 April and 31 May.
Tickets can be purchased up to 60 days in advance and nine thousands seats at discounted rates are available.
According to CP – which reportedly launched the campaign to compete with other modes of low-cost travel in Portugal, such as flights between Faro and Lisbon, and Porto – “the promotion covers all Alfa Pendular and Intercidades destinations.”
These include Lisbon to Porto from €5 on the Intercidades or €6.50 on the Alfa Pendular; Lisbon to Covilhã from €3.50; Lisbon to Guarda and Lisbon to Faro from €4.50, or Lisbon to Braga and Lisbon to Guimarães from €5.50, among others”.
This comes after CP workers staged strike action last month.
According to their union, “the strike aimed to achieve the negotiation of a regulation of careers that dignifies and values the workers of CP - Comboios de Portugal, EPE, who are on low wages, and to effectively reduce existing wage inequalities instead of increasing them enormously.”
