Drought resolved in northern half of Portugal

The regions of Portugal north of the Tagus River are no longer suffering from the drought, following rain that has fallen the past few weeks.

But despite steady downpours in the Alentejo and the Algarve, officials say another two months of rain are required to break the drought in southern Portugal.

The Environment Ministry warned dams are still near empty in certain areas, averaging around 20 percent in the Alentejo.
