A further seven councils in the Algarve are on red alert, with the Portuguese Met Office listing Lagos, Portimão, Monchique, Silves, Tavira, Alcoutim and Castro Marim as areas of concern for today.
Conditions are set to become even more conducive to wildfires as the week progresses, with forecasts of high temperatures coupled with strong winds.
