According to newspaper Correio da Manhã the vehicles were racing along the bridge at speeds of over 200 kilometres per hour. Two GNR patrol units pursued the vehicles from Alcochete to a petrol station on the Segunda Circular where they intercepted the cars. The motorbikes managed to get away.
