Minimum wage gains popularity with bosses

One in five employees only earned the minimum wage in 2014, seven percentage points more than the year before, Pordata said this week.

In 2013, 12 percent of employees got the minimum wage and in 2001 just four percent, according to Pordata.
The hotel and catering industry has the highest proportion of workers in these conditions with 26 percent only earning the minimum wage of €505, followed by manufacturing industry with 24.8 percent.

The business database also said that only half of all companies that open their doors in Portugal are still going after two years, according to their 2013 figures.
