According to the barometer, from January to late April, there were 19,846 companies created and 5,078 closed.

Informa D&B said that the growth of the creation of new companies was marked by the transport sector, which more than doubled to 892(+113.2%).

In addition to the services sector, which is always a sector in which more companies emerge, construction emerged as one of the areas creating more companies (2,345 at the end of April), exceeding retail and accommodation and catering, with over 40.5% increase compared to the previous year.

“Regarding the period from January to April, the real estate activity reduced the new companies by 6.2%, and accommodation and catering [decreased] by 1.8%,” Informa D&B said.

After 2018 with a “sharp rise” in the closure of companies, this year “began uncertain,” with the first two months recording a rise of 6.3% compared to the same period last year, a figure that was then balanced at the end of the first quarter.

In the first four months of the year there was an increase of 2.5% in the closing of companies, which is not transversal in all sectors, and for which there was a greater contribution from sectors of agriculture and other natural resources (25.6%) and information and communication technologies (12.7%).

Informa D&B also said that until April there were 743 insolvencies recorded, which represented a decrease of 14.8%, compared to the same period of the previous year.

Regarding industry, there were 217 new insolvencies recorded (16.0% more) and in transport there were 38 (11.8% more), and both sectors were the only ones recording more insolvencies than the previous year.
