Nurses’ strike was a success and saw 95 percent turnout, unions say

A five-day nurses' strike in Portugal that ends today had a 95 percent turnout and has been "a success", according to the head of the National Federation of Nurses' Unions (FENSE).

The strike also led to over 2,000 surgeries being cancelled. At a press conference in Lisbon, José Correia Azevedo, head of the federation, said the turnout had exceeded the unions' expectations, and that around 35,000 of a total 40,000 nurses across the country had joined the strike.
